September is a HUGE release month for games.
With Pax Prime wrapping up and Christmas just around the corner (seriously?) September is a HUGE release month for games. So if you can’t wait 3 months for the holidays and want to scratch that gaming itch sooner rather than later, here’s what to look for this September:
*Featured
September 1
*Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons – PS4, X1 (retail)
Already for PC and available for Digital Download on PS4 and X1, Brothers is
finally coming to retail. Featuring stunning artwork and a beautiful story, Brothers takes only a few hours to fully explore the world, but it’s a story that leaves a lasting impression.
*Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – WIN, PS3, PS4, X360, X1
I shouldn’t have to tell you why you should buy this game, but in case you’ve been leading a sad life and aren’t familiar with the MGS franchise, I’ll elaborate. Notably one of the most loved and well made video game franchises of all time, MGS5 lives up to its predecessors. If you don’t buy any other games this year, be sure to pick this one up.
*Mad MAX – WIN, LIN, PS3, PS4
While the game’s visuals are worth noting, Mad Max, like so many other games generated from movies, provides a fairly lackluster experience. If you’re a fan of the Mad Max franchise and are looking for more, you’ll enjoy the game, but I won’t be rushing to get it on September 1.
Armello – WIN, MAC, LIN, PS4
Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence – WIN, PS3, PS4
Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls – PSVita
Xeodrifter – PS4, PSVita
September 2
Act of Aggression – WIN
September 4
Super Toy Cars – XB1
Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse – PS4 on Sept 8, XB1
September 8
*Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX – 3DS
If you’re a fan of this adorable vocaloid, you’ll definitely want to pick this game up. It’s a rhythm-based game—think guitar hero on a DS—but it also places a heavy focus on user-generated content by allowing players to create their own videos and dance performances. Come on though, she’s adorable, why wouldn’t you want to play it?
Armikrog – WIN, MAC, LIN
Tearaway: Unfolded – PS4
September 9
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime – WIN, X1
September 10
Cross of the Dutchman – WIN
September 11
*Super Mario Maker – Wii U
Definitely a refreshing new addition to the Mario franchise, Super Mario Maker is a necessity for any Wii U owner. I was lucky enough to demo this game at Comic Con, and it is the first game I’ve seen on Wii U that takes full advantage of the widely-criticized second screen. Super Mario Maker single-handedly makes the Wii U a platform worth owning.
September 15
Destiny: The Taken King Digital Collector’s Edition – PS4, X1
Forza Motorsport 6 – X1
Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 – WIN, PS3, PS4
NHL 16 – PS4, X1
NHL Legacy Edition – PS3, X360
September 20
Skylanders SuperChargers Starter Pack – PS3, PS4, X360, X1, WiiU, Wii, 3DS, iOS
September 22
Blood Bowl 2 – WIN, PS4, X1
FIFA 16 – WIN, PS4, X1
Soma – WIN, MAC, LIN, PS4
September 25
Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer – 3DS
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 – PS3, PS4, X360, X1
September 28
NBA Live 16 – PS4, X1
September 29
*Lego Dimensions – PS4, PS3, X360, X1, WiiU
Ever wanted to live out your fan fiction of traveling with Batman in the Tardis through time and space to get to the Portal lab? Lego Dimensions is blowing everyone’s minds by finally making that possible. The Lego games in their own right are a crazy amount of puzzle-solving, easter egg-finding fun, and they’ve upped the ante with this game. Lego Dimensions uses the same format as Disney Infinity and Skylanders, providing the ability to buy expansion packs in the form of legos. Lego Dimensions is guaranteed to satisfy every mash-up fantasy you can imagine, provided your wallet can handle it.
*NBA 2K16 – WIN, PS3, PS4, X360, X1
If you’re a fan of the series, I’m sure you’ll be snagging this game. If you’re interested in upgrading, 2K announced they will be releasing a Michael Jordan edition. In addition to receiving the game 4 days in advance (on September 25), this special edition contains a plethora of both digital and physical Michael Jordan swag.
Grand Ages: Medieval – WIN, PS4
Fallout Anthology – WIN
Persona 4: Dancing All Night – PSVita
